Questions & answers

Something on your mind? Here’s a list of the most common questions we’re asked.

What is the Home mug?

It’s the very special collector’s item to celebrate Moomin 80th anniversary in 2025 – the illustration of the mug is based on the first Moomin story written by Tove Jansson, “The Moomins and the Great Flood”.

The exclusive Home mugs are manufactured and hand-painted in Thailand. For Hand-painting we are using the same professionals as Royal Copenhagen and the mugs are painted by individual hand-painters making each of the mugs a unique item. A lovely detail is that the bottom of each mug bears the initials of the person who painted it.

Where do you deliver?

The product can be delivered to Finland (not Åland), Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Germany.

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUG

Inspired by the story where the Moomin family finds their home

The illustration on the mug reflects the deeply emotional story of the very first Moomin tale, The Moomins and the Great Flood, written by Tove Jansson during World War II. Writing this story with its happy ending brought comfort during challenging times.

In the story, Moominpappa has been missing for a long time. A flood covers everything, leaving many creatures homeless and seeking refuge, including Moominmamma and Moomintroll. Along the way, the mutual support shared by fellow travelers brings the Moomin family back together. As the flood clears, the Moomins arrive in a small, blooming valley—the most beautiful place they’ve ever seen. There stands Moominhouse, built by Moominpappa himself for his family but thought to have been lost to the flood. The family has found their home!

No two Home mugs are alike

The Home mug is a true collector's gem, as it is part of a special limited edition of 8,000 pieces, with each mug being hand-painted and unique. Additionally, each mug features the Moomin 80 anniversary stamp on the bottom, a serial number indicating it's part of a limited edition, and the initials of the artisan who hand-painted the mug.

Mugs number 1 and 2 have already found their homes

The first piece of the hand-painted Home mug, celebrating the Moomin 80th anniversary, was gifted to the spouse of the President of the Republic of Finland, Suzanne Innes-Stubb by Nathalie Ahlström, CEO of Fiskars Group. The mug was handed over at the opening of the Tove Jansson – Paradise exhibition at the HAM Helsinki Art Museum in Finland on October 24 2024.
